Transforming Written Articles into Videos with NotebookLM: A Complete Guide

NotebookLM allows creators to upload written text—ranging from Wikipedia entries to personal blog posts—and automatically convert those sources into summaries, study guides, and voice-narrated video overviews using underlying Gemini, Imagen, and Veo models.

Supported Input Methods

  • Direct URLs: Paste links from live websites, Wikipedia entries, or published Blogger posts using the Link option.
  • Direct Text: Copy draft copy or specific excerpts into a Copied Text source.
  • Document Files: Upload offline PDFs or EPUBs directly through File Upload.
  • Batch Processing: Combine up to 50 individual text sources within a single notebook to synthesize broader concepts or topic series.

How to Generate a Video Overview

  1. Import your target blog posts or research articles into a dedicated notebook.
  2. Open the Studio panel on the right side of the workspace interface.
  3. Select Video Overview (or Cinematic Video Overview).
  4. Enter custom instructions into the prompt box (e.g., "Focus on actionable insights for a short social media video").
  5. Click generate to receive an automatically narrated, slide-based video summary.

Editing and Post-Production

  • Direct Editing: Generated videos are created as complete AI overviews (typically 1 to 5 minutes long) and cannot be frame-edited within NotebookLM.
  • Polishing: Download the completed media file to make custom adjustments—such as adding burned-in captions, personal branding, or background music—using external video editors like CapCut, Canva, or Premiere.

Pricing and Generation Limits

  • Free Tier ($0/month): Includes standard video generations, audio overviews, and source analysis with a daily limit of 3 Video Overviews per day on any standard Google Account.
  • Plus Plan ($4.99/month): Expands generation limits up to 6 Video Overviews per day.
  • Pro Plan ($19.99/month): Increases generation limits up to 20 Video Overviews per day.
  • Ultra Plan ($99.99+/month): Unlocks advanced cinematic models and over 100 daily generations for high-volume workflows.
