Refections on the chaos of war and the toll on humanity: 'No Sides'
Reflections on the chaos of war and the toll it takes on humanity: 'No Sides'
(A woman stands center stage, her posture steady, but her voice filled with sorrow and conviction. The stage is dimly lit, casting long shadows, as if reflecting the tension and darkness in the world.)
Woman:
(Softly, almost to herself)
It’s in the air. You can feel it… buzzing. Like a storm waiting to break open the sky. Wars, threats of war, and all that hurls up… energy. Explosive energy. It’s like the very air we breathe is filled with sparks, ready to ignite. And whether you’re on this side of the planet or the other, you feel it. Every. Single. Day.
(She pauses, looking out into the distance)
I’ve lived long enough to see a lot of things, but never, never have I felt a tangle of energy like this since the second World War. The world back then... It was torn apart. It felt like the earth itself was breaking at the seams. And here we are again, dancing on the same knife's edge, making the same mistakes.
(Takes a deep breath, as if the weight of the world presses on her)
And here’s the truth, the thing no one wants to admit… there are no two sides. We draw our little lines, we pick our flags, but really, no one’s winning this. Not in the way that matters.
(She steps forward, her voice growing in strength)
I refuse to pick a side. I won’t. I can’t. How can I, when no side is winning? How can I choose when destruction is the only victor?
(She shakes her head, a bitter smile crossing her lips)
All these battles... all this bloodshed, and what do we get? What do we have to show for it? People... are... dying. Cities crumbling. Families torn apart. Children... gone.
(She closes her eyes, her voice softening)
We’ve forgotten... we’ve forgotten the cost. We’ve forgotten that while we fight, while we shout and point fingers, destruction is quietly smiling in the shadows. It’s winning. And we, we’re too busy arguing to see it.
(She opens her eyes, her gaze piercing)
I’m not here for sides. I’m not here for victories that leave ashes in their wake. I’m here to mourn. I’m here to speak for the lives that have been lost in the noise of bombs and bullets. And I’m here to ask...
(She pauses, letting the question linger)
When will we stop pretending there are sides, and start fighting for life instead of death?
(She steps back, her voice now a whisper)
When will we stop… and listen?
(She stands still for a moment, then turns and walks away, leaving the audience in silence.)
This monologue captures the emotional weight of feeling caught in a world divided by war, while also offering a powerful statement on the futility of sides when destruction and loss are the ultimate outcomes.
Reflections on war by a woman who has had her family, her community and her life torn apart is touching in its naked honesty. It is true what she sees and speaks of in simple honesty. We only need to look at Gaza or the Ukraine and the inner voices speak out, "whats it all for"
ReplyDeleteThis is not a phenomenon of our times, it has been going on since human history began, we have only gotten better at killing.
The only new view point I can contribute to this topic is to try and think back to a time when the first human ancestors walked this earth. They did not create themselves just as no one creates their lives. A Creator created life and with that creation it certainly was given a purpose to exist. That first man and the first woman failed to fulfill their portion of responsibility to become the True Parents of all mankind. From that fallen couple has come a fallen family and. the fallen world we now see. If we do not know the true cause of how evil came into human kind how can we correct it? A doctor who has no idea of what ails his patient will have little hope of finding a cure. There are many claiming to be the Messiah but as history has taught us there is only one. It was true at the time of Jesus and its true today. Simply good words and common sense are not enough. Find the man and the woman, the couple who have willingly gone through hell to serve our Creator and you will find the True Parents of Heaven Earth and all Humankind and the answers to what must be done to restore this fallen world.
