(Lights come up on a lone figure, maybe holding a mug of tea or coffee. They take a sip and begin)
Eight years on Wikipedia, you'd think I'd seen it all. But you know what I feel like sometimes? A chocolate chip in a tub of vanilla ice cream. Sure, I add a little flavor, but mostly, I'm surrounded by the same old, same old.
The truth is, mainstream media? It's got a sweet tooth for a certain kind of story. Rappers, sure, they get their shine. But then there's the other side, the negative, the stuff that reinforces stereotypes. It's frustrating, you know?
But that's where I come in. Because the real gems, the ones who truly inspire me? They're often overlooked. People who've done incredible things, but because they don't fit the mold, their stories get buried. Maybe they're marginalized, like me. Maybe their achievements come from communities that just don't get the spotlight.
And that's what keeps me going. Finding these hidden heroes, these everyday superheroes. Learning about their struggles, their triumphs, it fills me up. It's a constant reminder that greatness comes in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
The thing is, even Wikipedia, for all its good, can be stuck in its ways. It uses these old criteria to decide who's worthy of a page, and guess who gets left out? The very same people I fight to celebrate. Same problem with these fancy new AI chatbots, these machine learning things. They're trained on data that, well, let's just say it's a little vanilla. Not enough chocolate chip, you know what I mean?
But that's the beauty of the work, isn't it? Challenging the status quo, one edit, one story at a time. Because the more we share these under-represented voices, the richer the whole picture becomes. And that, my friends, is a future I can get behind.
